THE RAPTOR CENTER
The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota (TRC) is a world-renowned facility that sees over 800 birds each year in its rehabilitation clinic. As part of the College of Veterinary Medicine, TRC’s medical staff has long been involved in teaching veterinary students and professionals about raptor medicine and surgery; the high international profile of TRC is reflected in the fact that over 250 people from 21 countries have come to study at TRC since 1982. In addition, the center is involved in research on issues facing raptors such as West Nile Virus, aspergillosis and lead toxicity, as well as public outreach programs that educate over 150,000 people a year on raptor and conservation issues. All this is done on a budget that is supported primarily through philanthropy.
